It is a standalone two-pane client that supports SFTP and a bunch of other protocols. Panic's Transmit 3 is one of the best of its breed. So what features should one expect from an SFTP client? There are alternatives, but Finder insists to pop-up just when you least expect it. In fact it sucks so badly, that sometimes I feel like installing Windows 98 on my Macbook. Replacing Finder - In true Apple tradition the default should be good enough for everyone. If you really insist to open it, press the 'obvious' combination: Cmd + Down. Opening files with Enter - If you didn't notice by now, pressing Enter renames the file. Probably the guys from Apple didn't finish it in time and thought nobody will notice it's grayed out. You see, there is this option called Cut in the Edit menu, but is always disabled. Workarounds: right click to 'Make Alias' and then move the alias to the desktop / drag a file over Mail.app (if you keep it on your Dock, if not, too bad)Ĭut - Yes, something that basic! It doesn't exist in Finder. You could make a desktop shortcut (alias) or send a file by e-mail in a matter of seconds. 'Send' context menu - Oh, how I miss the Send context menu from Windows Explorer. Neither is quite right, but they do the job. There are in fact three workarounds for that: use the optional Path toolbar button, right click on the title bar to see the Path, or enable the Path bar from the View menu. Luckily, some of them can be fixed, sort of fixed, bypassed or are properly implemented in third-party file managers. There are so many things that are wrong about it that I don't know where to start. It's the worst file manager I've seen in any serious operating system.

Having read the support forums and snooped around their bug-tracker there is hope that this issues will be solved in 2009.įinder, the default file management application in Mac OS X, is crap. If these minor (but annoying) details were fixed I'd recommend it in a heartbeat over iTunes.
